Fbrequently Asked Questions

If I want to find out more about my genealogy, how do I begin?

Simply call Rick Miller, at 314-229-7770 or email him at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.   to set up an appointment. He'll meet with you in person if possible, or by telephone, to find out what you know about your family and what you want to know.

How do I know you will be able to find something out about my family?

He will spend the first hour of research to get a sense of what is available. If nothing can be found, there is no charge.

How long does it take?

That all depends. He'll spend six hours researching (first hour is free) and show you what he has discovered about your family. If you wish to stop at this point in the research, the results will be printed and bound. If you want him to continue, you set the number of additional hours of researching. You are always in control of how many hours you wish to invest and you can stop at any time.

How do I know if the information is accurate?

To the extent possible, all information is footnoted and documented with paper copies of such things as census records, immigration records, ship manifests, social security death index, naturalization papers, military service records, birth and death certificates, baptism or christening records, marriage records, and obituaries.

We adhere to the Geneaological Proof Standard, which includes:

  • a reasonably exhaustive search
  • complete and accurate source citations
  • analysis and correlation of the collected information
  • resolution of any conflicting evidence
  • a soundly reasoned, coherently written conclusion

How many generations can you find?

That depends upon what records are accessible. It is not unusual  to trace a family back thirty generations or more, and we have gone back as far as sixty generations, the beginning of the Middle Ages.

How much does the research cost?

That depends on how much information is available and how much you would like to invest. As noted above, the first hour is free. After that, it is $45 per hour with a minimum of five hours.
